Following the Fox

London, early 2010s. One night near Baker Street I heard a strange cry outside my window and looked down to see a red fox crossing under the street lamp. It moved quietly, sure of where it was going, and then it was gone.

The next morning I went out looking for it. It was long gone, of course, so I tried walking the way it might have walked, pausing where it might pause, looking where it might look. I followed it all day through streets I had never seen and started noticing what I had been walking past for years: shadows, empty corners, the small geometries of the city.

That walk quietly changed the way I photograph. These instax prints come from those years, when I started letting the city lead.
